CTAPP Audit & Compliance Review Services

What is CTAPP?

The Client Trust Account Protection Program (CTAPP) is an initiative established by the California State Bar to strengthen oversight of attorney client trust accounts. Attorneys are required to register their trust accounts and may be selected for a compliance review to verify that client funds are being handled in accordance with California’s ethical and accounting rules.

At its foundation, CTAPP exists to protect client funds and ensure attorneys are maintaining proper financial controls, accurate records, and full transparency in how those funds are managed.

Why CTAPP Compliance Matters

Client trust accounting is one of the most highly regulated aspects of practicing law. Even well-intentioned mistakes can lead to significant consequences, including State Bar inquiries, disciplinary action, and reputational damage.

Many compliance issues arise not from misconduct, but from the complexity of the rules and the lack of specialized accounting processes. CTAPP places a clear emphasis on proper recordkeeping, timely reconciliations, and strong internal controls.

For law firms, compliance is not just about meeting requirements. It is about protecting your license, your clients, and the long-term integrity of your practice.
