David J. Swan
David J. Swan joined the firm in December 1985, became a partner in 1998, and is presently the director of the litigation department, specializing in family law forensic accounting.
David has testified in family law matters in Los Angeles County, Kern County, Orange, San Diego, Santa Barbara and San Mateo County Superior Courts and performed litigation accounting services covering a wide range of issues, primarily in the area of long-cause family law proceedings. Additionally, he has performed services regarding various other family law issues including determination of cash flow available for support, allocation of interest in pension plans and real property, analysis of reimbursement claims and assisting counsel in determining the character of assets through application of case law to the tracing of sources of funds.
David has performed numerous mechanical account tracing analyses, supervised the development of Gursey | Schneider LLP's proprietary Digitrace© tracing program, implemented Laserfiche® paperless office systems, and lectured family law lawyers, CPA litigation groups, and judicial seminars regarding tracing theory and practice.
David is a current member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and holds the AICPA Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) certification. He also holds the newly created Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credential offered by the AICPA. David lectures on litigation and management issues for the California CPA Educational Foundation, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Divorce Conference and the Continuing Judicial Studies Program. He attends numerous continuing education courses including those presented by the Los Angeles County Bar Association Annual Symposiums, the Beverly Hills Bar Association Symposiums and the Litigation Conferences sponsored by the California Society of CPAs.
He graduated from Black Hills State University in South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business Administration. After graduation, he was employed in private industry and public accounting positions prior to joining Gursey | Schneider LLP.
